the thing about lightness.

(i'm already halfway into my 52 weeks project! how fleeting time is. i've not been posting the photos from each week on this blog but if you'd like to, please do check them all out here!)

this week's photo was very, very much inspired by this quote by Milan Kundera from his book "The Unbearable Lightness of Being";

“The heaviest of burdens crushes us, we sink beneath it, it pins us to the ground. But in love poetry of every age, the woman longs to be weighed down by the man's body.The heaviest of burdens is therefore simultaneously an image of life's most intense fulfillment. The heavier the burden, the closer our lives come to the earth, the more real and truthful they become.Conversely, the absolute absence of burden causes man to be lighter than air, to soar into heights, take leave of the earth and his earthly being, and become only half real, his movements as free as they are insignificant. What then shall we choose? Weight or lightness?”

i've always thought of myself as a sponge, soaking in experiences both good and bad. everything i experience will change me and i will try to adapt to that and in the end, it will all have built up to something much, much larger than the happiness or heartache that i feel towards that experience or change; it will have moulded me into someone different, some new, mostly old.

i love this post! i read the unbearable lightness of being probably 5 or 6 years ago and i've JUST finished re-reading it last week. i love milan kundera's writing style and the way he uses language is beautiful, the quote you picked really stood out to me too when i was reading it. your photos fit with it so well!

Oh wow. What a wonderful shot. I love how you interpreted the book into your photographs. They look so light and precious.
